A bloc of material, a massive and strong monolith. Which method can be employed in order to disintegrate it, enhance and qualify its materiality?

I chose to work on cosmetic wax on a series composed of 4 identical volumes. Under natural light, no real difference can be spotted between them : however, when they are in the dark, an inner movement and a surface quality are revealed. Wax looks like it is nibbled from the inside by light, which invades and fully occupies it. That reveals the qualities on the surface, and the richness of a quite neutral material, which suddenly gets translucent and fragile, almost precious thanks to that interaction with light. The whole work is very poetic and inhabited by a delicacy that the original lump was hiding.

 

Un bloc de matière, un monolithe massif et puissant. Quelle méthode employer pour le désintégrer, valoriser et qualifier sa matière? 

J’ai choisi d’exploiter le matériau cire sur une série de quatre volumes de géométrie identique. A la lumière, aucune évolution flagrante n’est décelable ; c’est dans le noir que se révèlent un mouvement intérieur et une qualité de surface. La cire est comme rongée de l’intérieur par une lumière qui vient l’envahir, l’habiter. Cette dernière révèle la beauté et la richesse d’un matériau plutôt neutre, qui devient translucide et fragile, presque précieux de par cette qualité lumineuse. L’ensemble est habité d’une poésie et d’une finesse que la masse originale ne laissait aucunement transparaître.
